Got Moves

Our garage door was left unlatched.
We parked on kerb, we parked on patch
Of grass. Once.
You watched all this with great attent
Then tried to put a dent
In our happies. Long and short of it,
You spoke up at the body corporate –

Whence such gusts of censure come –
That all of us have been struck dumb,
Like a special move by a Pokemon.

You think we will not well survive this season:
That one could find us, summer, wrinkled raisins.
But that is unreason. Expect the unexpected

Alone in Pidurangala

A millipede unfolded itself from my bag,
A mouse or squirrel hopped across the floor,
A treefrog sat gripping the toilet seat lid at night, and stared
At the visitor, before propelling itself
Against the opposite wall, maybe waiting for
Its colours to settle.
Sandlions pitted the edge of the forest;
Dry Zone forest.
Termites built mounds in tiny replica of the
Great fortress nearby, Sigiriya the rock citadel.
Birds began early and kept up the cry
Ants folded leaves into pavilions and
Held them there with sticky thread.
